Fearing that you are going to feed the SIBO can pr Fearing that you are going to feed the SIBO can prevent you from nourishing your body and building up good microbes. It basically leaves you and your good microbes depleted

I hear from my clients often “I don’t want to feed the SIBO”. Well, I have good news...You really can’t starve the SIBO away with diet change (the only exception being the elemental diet). SIBO is a gut environment problem not a good problem

Yes, you do want to avoid foods that trigger you and lead to symptoms, but I would avoid trying to pursue starving the SIBO. It also typically leads to starving yourself

Feeding your self is way more important than trying to starve the SIBO. Don’t miss my webinar tonight where we talk all about the biggest SIBO mistakes that I see! The link is in my bio to register. See you tonight! #sibo #ibs #sibodiet #lowfodmap

This is a throw back from the summer, but I had to This is a throw back from the summer, but I had to post again because it is so important

Belief that your gut symptoms can get better is required to make improvements. The mental side of beating gut issues is rarely takes about but can be MAKE or BREAK for my clients (and in my own gut health journey)

But don’t get me wrong, it can be hard to maintain belief in a happy gut if you have been on a gut journey for awhile. And as with any journey, there are going to be set backs which are frustrating no doubt

Your mindset can be your own worst enemy or it can be your greatest ally. Remembering to have faith in the process is key. Accepting that not everything is going to work, but when something doesn’t work...you are one step closer to something that DOES WORK

With the right strategies, gut healing is within your reach. When you understand the root causes of your gut issues, you will have more faith in the process

If you are having trouble seeing life outside of your gut issues, I would try visualizing it. Visualize yourself eating out with friends, pursuing your passions without gut symptoms and living the life you want

Visualizing and feeling the emotions of happiness, gratitude and freedom you would have if they were a reality helps to elevate the exercise. Once you can see it, it can be easier to believe it

How are you changing your mindset for the better during your gut journey?

I wanted to post a follow up to my leaky gut post I wanted to post a follow up to my leaky gut post from the other day as there are lots of misconceptions about leaky gut

I used to assume almost all people with SIBO and IBS have leaky gut but based on research there is not as strong of an association as you might think

It is easy to think intestinal permeability or leaky gut must come with a side of SIBO or IBS. And the research does not suggest a strong association. But, the more severe the IBS the stronger the association or probability of leaky gut

But, leaky gut and high permeability is more strongly associated with metabolic dysfunction, standard American diets (low in fiber/high in fat), hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, antibiotic use, NSAID use

One other really key point that Dave Mayo @hackyourgut has covered really well in more recent blogs is that everyone’s gut is permeable! The small intestine becomes more permeable when we eat foods to absorb nutrients and less permeable when we fast/between meals

But, healthy microbe reduce inflammation during meal times when the gut is more permeable to ensure tolerance. So the key to preventing any ill effects from leaky gut is a healthy microbiome

Typically symptoms I look for to determine if the gut is too permeable is a high possibility are more systemic symptoms like histamine reactions, joint pain, skin issues, mood imbalances, metabolic dysfunction and cognitive decline

Following the guidelines in my past post should be a good rule of thumb if you suspect leaky gut is a part of your equation

#sibo #guthealth #ibs #leakygut #sibodiet
Leaky gut is often to blame for so many problems i Leaky gut is often to blame for so many problems in the GI space! As a consequence, leaky gut protocols are so popular

But, is shoveling in 15 grams of glutamine really going to solve the problem? Leaky Gut is not a root cause! It is a symptom of other issues

It is important to note that, everyone has some level of gut permeability—this allows nutrients to come into our bodies. Permeability becomes a problem when it becomes dysregulated and toxins and microbes can get past the gut lining

The above list can be key factors in regulating intestinal permeability and preventing unwanted compounds from getting into the body. No amount of glutamine can fix permeability if these root causal factors are not addressed

Also, long term fiber restrictive diets make it a lot harder to maintain optimal gut barrier function. It requires diet diversification to have a strong gut barrier

What are your questions about leaky gut!? Please leave in the comments #sibo #leakygut #ibs #guthealth
