Sorry my captions are not working!! But I still wa Sorry my captions are not working!! But I still wanted to share this pearl! Antimicrobials are not always needed to rebalance the microbiome. I would argue that many times they are not needed.

You can manipulate the microbiome with probiotics and prebiotics. You can even manipulate the microbiome solely by focusing on breakdowns in digestion and motility.

And if antimicrobials have not been helpful. More is not the answer. Some people just don’t respond to aggressive clearing (and it’s a considerable amount of my clients)

Welcome to my Ted talk!!! Malnutrition is a side e Welcome to my Ted talk!!! Malnutrition is a side effect of restrictive eating. Functional medicine providers seem to be egregious at promoting diets that lead to malnutrition.

And you can’t get better from gut issues if you aren’t nourished! It’s probably the number one issue holding many of my clients back. Many have tried lots of great strategies but have missed the mark nutrition wise leading to little gains.

I really just want the functional medicine space to do better! Send patients to dietitians if you can’t properly assess their patients diets OR ensure that they are getting enough nutrition! And for god sakes stop scaring people to death about food. 

Trust me—it’s way scarier in the long run to become deficient in many nutrients then to potentially eat a food that makes you bloat. 

I would love to hear your experiences working with providers! I’m sure there are still some great functional providers out there but I just see so many promoting dietary patterns that lead to malnutrition

There are great providers and great support systems out there but if you are experiencing these along your journey--I would try to change up your support. Because there are tons of great providers out there who will not lead you down some of these paths! ⁠

Food fears can lead to so much anxiety. It can be Food fears can lead to so much anxiety. It can be so scary to add foods back in. What if you react to foods??

But, what if you don’t? You will never know until you try! Unfortunately, the brain needs you to take action and eat foods in order to let it’s guard down again. 

If you are scared or anxious—that is ok and to be expected. But don’t let that fear keep you from moving forward. I’m working with my clients—it’s getting outside of your comfort zone that will yield progress!! 

Start small but keep pushing yourself! Introing foods will get better over time.
